New Zealand bans TikTok from MPs’ phones

SYDNEY (Reuters) – New Zealand will ban the Chinese video app TikTok from phones that can access the network of New Zealand’s parliament, a government official said on Friday. The app will be banned from the end of March on phones that can connect to the New Zealand parliament network, said Rafael Gonzalez-Montero, head of parliamentary services. The app, owned by Beijing-based company ByteDance, could end up with user data falling into the hands of the Chinese government, harming the security interests of Western countries.
