Cyclone Freddy death toll in Malawi rises to 190


BLANTYRE, Malawi (Reuters) – The death toll from Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi has risen from 99 to 190, the country’s disaster management agency said on Tuesday. Freddy, one of the most powerful cyclones ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere, has killed dozens of people as it wreaked havoc in Malawi and Mozambique after making a second landfall over the weekend. The country’s Department of Disaster Management Affairs said in a statement that 584 people were injured and 37 were missing as torrential rains continued to lash Malawi on Tuesday.
