Biden collapses on stage during a military ceremony
US President Joe Biden, 80, is “well” according to the White House, after a harmless fall at a military ceremony in Colorado Springs in the western United States on Thursday.
The Democrat, who recently presented diplomas to students at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, fell forward, landing on his knees and hands, after apparently tripping over a black bag.
His communications director Ben LaBolt tweeted, “He’s fine. There was a sandbag on the stage when he was shaking hands.”
Joe Biden, whose age and physical appearance have been the subject of frequent attacks by some of his political opponents, then rose to his side with the help of a soldier and his bodyguards.
We saw him pointing to this bag, which had been used to ballast a device on the scene, as if to explain the cause of its fall.
Presidents, especially candidates for the 2024 election against Republican Donald Trump, attended the end of the ceremony, not immediately affected by the fallout.
He then took the plane back to Washington, climbing the stairs without stopping to answer reporters on the spot.
In June 2022, a photograph of the President collapsing during a bike ride had already created a stir. Again, Joe Biden got up and didn’t suffer any particular physical consequences.
The Democrat’s most recent health checkup, in February, found him to be in good health.
But according to polls, a majority of Americans believe he is too old for a second term.
