Antonio Panzeri’s accountant arrested in Italy

ROME (Reuters) – The accountant of former Italian MEP Antonio Panzeri, who is at the heart of Belgian justice investigations into a corruption scandal at the European Parliament linked to Qatar, has been arrested in Italy, we learned Wednesday from a source directly informed of the situation.

Monica Rossana Bellini was targeted by a European arrest warrant issued by the Belgian authorities.

Apprehended by the Italian police, she is accused of criminal association, corruption and money laundering.

Antonio Panzeri, arrested in Brussels last month and charged with three other people including the former vice-president of the European Parliament Eva Kaili, agreed to collaborate in the investigation led by Belgium, in exchange for a reduced sentence , the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday.
