18-day strike at UK universities
LONDON (Reuters) – More than 70,000 workers at 150 British universities will strike for 18 days between February and March demanding pay rises, improved working conditions and pensions, the University and College Union said on Thursday. (UCU). “The clock is ticking for the sector to find an agreement, at the risk of it being affected by contagious disturbances during the spring”, warned Jo Grady, general secretary of the UCU, the main union of employees of British education. Faced with the social repercussions of double-digit inflation affecting the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has to deal with a series of successive strikes in many sectors of activity.
