Sensation in Italy. From the 3rd round of the Masters 1000 in Rome, Carlos Alcaraz lost, on Monday May 15th, against the 135th world champion Fabian Marozsan, 6-3, 7-6 (7/4). Coming from qualifying, the 23-year-old Hungarian managed to unseat what will become world number one again at the publication of the next ATP ranking, the recent winner of the Barcelona tournament and the Madrid Masters 1000. The 20-year-old Spaniard tasted defeat for the third time in the 2023, in 33 games played.
Two weeks before the start of Roland-Garros, where he will be seeded number 1, Carlos Alcaraz has been completely dominated by his Hungarian opponent, who had never won a match on the ATP circuit before the Masters 1000 in Rome. In the next round, Fabian Marozsan will face Croatian Borna Coric (16th in the world) for a place in the quarterfinals.
