Will the leaders finally discover themselves? After two weeks of racing taking turns to get rid of the leader’s jersey and the responsibilities it confers, the most ambitious riders in the general classification of the Giro d’Italia begin the final sprint on Tuesday 23 May.

On paper, the 16th stage between Sabbio Chiese and Monte Bondone offers a route likely to create differences, with 203 km of mountain road and above all a long last climb (22.7 km at 6.4%) as a conclusion.

Armirail always in pink

Spoiled since the start of this Giro with eight victories in thirteen road stages (excluding the time trial), the breakaways will once again try their luck.

It remains to be seen if the group of favorites will continue on the same path and if the pursuit of the fugitives will still be entrusted to Bruno Armirail and Groupama-FDJ. For his second day in the squad, the French rider is 1’08” ahead of the second in the general standings, Geraint Thomas (Ineos).
