German Liane Lippert (Movistar) won the Mauriac sprint on Monday.
Rainy phase, unhappy phase. The 2nd stage of the 2023 women’s Tour de France between Clermont-Ferrand and Mauriac was marred by a cascade of falls, caused by the rain that soaked the road at the end of the race. Uneven, this stage was announced as spectacular and open to adventurers, but in the end nothing happened. After a fairly uneventful start to the day, a group of favorites formed after crashes in the finale.
On the final climb, apart from Mavi Garcia (Liv Racing TeqFind), all the leaders were neck-and-neck, including Frenchmen Evita Muzic (FDJ-Suez) and Juliette Labous (Team DSM). But the SD Worx army solved the problem, nipping the attacks in the bud, all taken up by Marlen Reusser. In the final meters, the Swiss suddenly slowed down to create a break, in favor of her teammate and yellow jersey Lotte Kopecky. But the Belgian was surprised by the fresher Liane Lippert (Movistar).
