The start of the Olympic Games will therefore be in 500 days. North of Paris, the Olympic village is emerging from the ground. It is expected to seat 14,250 people during the competition.

It is the largest urban building site in France, the equivalent of 70 football pitches. An immense neighborhood that rises above the ground in three communes, located north of Paris. In 500 days the Olympic Village will welcome its first inhabitants. Allison Pineau, Olympic handball champion, visiting the site, dreams of putting her sports bag there. Henri Specht, Director of the Athletes’ Village, says: “We currently have 3,000 workers on site, so everyone is working hard.

14,250 people welcomed

Accompanied by Laurent Michaud, assistant director of the athletes’ village, Allison Pineau discovers a first finished apartment. “14,250 people will be welcomed here during the Olympic phase. 10,500 athletes with their officials“, explains Laurent Michaud. Even the bathroom has been designed to host the Paralympic athletes. The village is the heart of the Games, a sort of summer camp for champions. From 2025, the village will become a district of 2,800 housing units, 6,000 inhabitants will to settle there.
