“It is a considerable challenge, with 15,000 athletes who will arrive with very unusual baggage at our airports,” acknowledges Augustin de Romanet. In addition, 16 million tourists will be expected, in addition to athletes, in the period of the Olympic Games.

“We will be the main door of entry and exit” of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, said the CEO of Aéroports de Paris Augustin de Romanet on Tuesday 16 May on franceinfo, also announcing that the ADP group will be a partner of the 2024 Olympic Games. “It is a considerable challenge, with 15,000 athletes who will arrive with very special baggage at our airports. While 16 million tourists are expected in addition to the athletes for the Paris Games, recommends the CEO of Adp“Avoid flying on days of large arrivals and departures of athletes”i.e. 23 July and 14 August 2024, “three days before the opening ceremony and three days after the closing ceremony”. “It shouldn’t be too big of a concern”reassures, however, convinced that “In previous Olympics, there were more people at airports, but fewer tourists.”

Regarding security at Paris airports, “it is still optimal, whatever the period” as regards security and baggage control, assures Augustin de Romanet. Regarding security around airports, the ADP CEO expects it to be tightened by “the prefect of police of Paris who is responsible for public order” in those places. To accommodate the millions of visitors and athletes, “more than a thousand volunteers” they will be “pre-recruited” ahead of the Olympic calendar. In particular, this should allow these volunteers to be “trained especially in English to enable them to communicate easily”explains Augustin de Romanet.

At the request of the International Olympic Committee, the Aéroports de Paris group will also allow athletes to do so “check-in and be accredited at the airport premises”. “For departure, everyone will have to be able to check in their luggage at the same time in the premises of the Olympic village and then there could be a dedicated terminal”. Also, ADP “is doing everything to ensure that last year’s very worrying incident does not happen again”. In 2022, 35,000 pieces of luggage were lost at Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport.

Finally, on the occasion of the Olympic Games, the ADP group will launch its first flying taxis. “These small helicopters will be tested on experimental lines between Issy-les-Moulineaux and Saint-Cyr-l’École, between Roissy and Le Bourget and between Le Bourget and a barge moored on the banks of the Seine near the Quai d’Austerlitz”specifies Augustin de Romanet who provides that these machines “will explode in the world from the years 2028-2030”. “We will sell a few thousand tickets at very reasonable prices”promises. “The ride will cost roughly double that of a car taxi, so around 110 euros to go from Paris to Roissy.”
