Schumacher’s first Formula 1 car to be auctioned off

The first Formula 1 car of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is up for sale at Bonhams. Lot number 556 appears on the official website of the auction.

Michael Schumacher made his debut at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix in a Jordan-Ford 191 (chassis 191/6). Then the German racer showed the eighth time, sitting behind the wheel of a car of this class for the first time and ahead of his teammate Andrea de Cesaris.

The machine is in working order, it was used in filming for the TV channel skysports on the track at Silverstone, where it was piloted by Karun Chandhok and the son of Michael Schumacher – Mick.

The lot is accompanied by a copy of a letter from Jordan race engineer Trevor Foster that tells the history of the car.

According to Foster, at the beginning of the session, Michael was faster than de Cesaris, after which he asked to use a spare car (chassis 04). And Michael had a leak in the cooling system.

“It required the removal of the engine. Andrea remained on the spare, and we gave Michael Andrea’s car (chassis 06), on which he showed the eighth time, ahead of Andrea, ”the letter says.
