Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico has been hospitalized in “serious condition” after falling from his horse

Great concern for Sergio Rico. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, who replaced the Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma in the doors of the Parisian club, is “in serious condition”, a PSG spokesman announced to AFP on Sunday 28 May.

Sergio Rico fell from his horse in circumstances that are still to be clarified. The day before, at the age of 29, he took part on the bench in the training match in Strasbourg, during which Paris won their 11th Scudetto. The native of Seville suffered”a riding accident in AndalusiaA Paris Saint-Germain spokesman confirmed this to Agence France-Presse, without providing further details on the player’s injuries or the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Sergio was going to mass when he had an accident with a carriage and a horse that kicked him”explains for its part the agency that represents the footballer, in a statement released in the name of the family on social media. “Sergio is in the best hands, he’s struggling to recover […] We await results on its medical evolution, which we hope will be favourable”.they add, specifying that in the next 48 hours great caution will have to be exercised.

Rico arrived at PSG in the summer of 2019 on a loan deal with an option to buy, activated a few months later. Promising on his debut for Sevilla FC until he was part of the Spanish selection for Euro 2016, the goalkeeper has played a substitute role since he signed for the Parisian club. Rico was subsequently surpassed in the goalkeeping rotation by Keylor Navas, then by “Gigi” Donnarumma since the Italy international’s arrival in Paris in 2021. A sometime cup-match starter, Sergio Rico made 24 appearances for PSG, and has had been loaned for the second half of the 2021-2022 season to Mallorca.
