Mauricio Pochettino takes up Chelsea’s challenge

The former Paris Saint-Germain manager signed a three-year contract with the London club on Monday.

Back to his first love. Mauricio Pochettino, who left good memories in England, will return to the Premier League. And not with any club since the Argentine coach has signed for two years with Chelsea, with an option for one year. additionalMonday 29 May.

One year after the arrival of the new American owners, Chelsea turned to Pochettino to restore order in the blue house, after one of the worst seasons in the club’s history. “Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record”co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said in a statement about the coach, who was a 2019 Champions League finalist with Spurs.

If Todd Boehly and the Clearlake investment fund have not skimped on spending, with 600 million euros earmarked for signing in 12 months, the Blues have in fact completely skipped the 2022-2023 financial year, ending in a pitiful 12th place.

And on the bench the same inconsistency seemed to reign, Thomas Tuchel being sacked after just seven games, when the club were sixth, to bring in Graham Potter from Brighton. Hired on a long-term project, he was also fired in early April. Since then, Chelsea have gone on a hunt for the rare pearl, leaving former local glory, Frank Lampard, to handle day-to-day affairs during this period.

Free since leaving Paris Saint-Germain, Pochettino embarks on a new challenge with the Blues. If the club’s name and pedigree dictate it, Chelsea’s sporting situation is no big deal: the Londoners record their worst ranking for 29 years and will miss out on the European Cup next season. At 51, the former Southampton and Tottenham manager finds himself at the foot of a mountain.
