Matytsin criticized Isinbayeva for words about military rank
Russian Federation Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin commented on the statement of two-time Olympic champion Elena Isinbayeva.
Earlier, a Russian athlete who left for Spain claimed that her military ranks received during performances for CSKA were nominal.
“There is an absolutely unambiguous assessment here: it is unacceptable to treat a military rank, civilian position and events taking place in your native country in this way. Every person who loves their country is unequivocally negative about such statements,” Matytsin said, citing TASS.
For her statements, Isinbayeva was subjected to a flurry of criticism, and the head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov instructed to rename the Makhachkala stadium named after her.
