Third day of competitions in Japan, on the occasion of the swimming world championships. The day after Maxime Grousset’s bronze medal in the 50m butterfly, the Blues will still have a few opportunities to shine on Tuesday 25 July at the Marine Messe pool in Fukuoka.
All eyes will first be on the longest race of the week, the 1,500m freestyle. Young Anastasiia Kirpichnikova (23) broke the oldest record in France in qualifying on Monday, held since 2006 by Laure Manaudou. She probably won’t compete for gold with American star, Katie Ledecky, but she is hoping to take the stage. Ditto for the duo of Italian back riders: Mewen Tomac and Yohann Ndoye-Brouard, respectively 4th and 5 times in the semifinals.
We will also need to count on the young Pauline Mahieu (24 years old), who on Monday broke the French record set by Laure Manaudou on the 100m backstroke (dating back to 2008), signing the 5th time (59″30) of the time. Finally, the new king of the pools, Léon Marchand, returns to dive two days after his world record in the 400m medley. He is engaged in the 200m butterfly, where he is the reigning world vice-champion, he will aim for one of the three best times to reach the final, scheduled for Wednesday.
