Kylian Mbappé still voted best player of the season in Ligue 1, Lensois awarded

The Lens coach and goalkeeper were rewarded for Sang et Or’s superb season on Sunday night.

Power 4. Crowned champions of France this weekend with PSG, Kylian Mbappé was voted Ligue 1’s best player by his peers for the fourth consecutive season, during the UNFP Trophies ceremony on Sunday 28 May. This is a record for the French striker, crowned in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and which surpasses Zlatan Ibrahimovic, awarded three times.

Having received his trophy from manager Didier Deschamps, the Blues captain wanted “First of all” contact his “sincere thoughts” for Sergio Rico, his teammate of the Spanish goalkeeper who suffered a serious accident on horseback on Sunday morning.

While assuring that it would be “still there next season”Mbappé said goodbye to his team-mate Lionel Messi, nominated in the same category but absent from the ceremony. “It’s a privilege to play with players like that”, he praised. Another Parisian, Nuno Mendes, was voted the league’s best hope.

Award winning Haise and Samba

In his speech, Mbappé also paid tribute to “Lensois, who had a great season”. Now guaranteed to play in the next Champions League, the Artésiens were heavily highlighted during this ceremony. Franck Haise was named best manager, while recently called up to France Brice Samba was named best goalkeeper.

For her part, Delphine Cascarino was named the best player of D1 Arkéma. A first prize of this type for Lyonnaise, who also recently suffered a serious knee injury which deprived her of the next World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
