“It’s not the first time, nor will it be the last.” Paul Pogba, the midfielder of the French national team who plays for Juventus, posted a message on his Instagram account on Tuesday 23 May to react to the racist insults suffered by Vinicius Junior on Sunday at the Valencia stadium. His observations are accompanied by a photo of the Brazilian player from Real Madrid, a regular victim in Spain of this type of attitude in the opponents’ boxes.
“Bananas, animal noises, songs against us? It’s a mental illness and I think we can all agree that neither ads nor slogans are going to change these people. If I’ve learned one thing this year it’s that when someone has the black heart, nothing and nothing can change this”, affects, in a concise press release, the former Manchester United player. Before discussing the beginning of an answer to a problem that affects many stages: “We must never let it pass again. We have so many examples and I think today we all agree that nothing has changed since then. (…) If the institutions don’t want to find a real solution, let’s try to do it ourselves, for ourselves.”
Spanish justice has opened a “hate crime” investigation after Real Madrid filed a complaint on Monday. The arrests took place on Tuesday morning, when the Spanish Federation decided to withdraw the video referee that had refereed Valencia-Real from the following day.
