Gianni Infantino re-elected president of FIFA

Gianni Infantino has been re-elected to the position of the International Football Federation (FIFA).

The election of the head of FIFA was held at the 73rd Congress of the organization in Kigali (Rwanda). As in June 2019, Infantino was the only candidate for the position.

As such, there was no voting process, the delegates supported the re-election with applause. The new mandate of Infantino, 52, is calculated until 2027.

Infantino has headed FIFA since 26 February 2016, when he replaced Joseph Blatter, who resigned early after a corruption scandal at the organisation.

FIFA had previously ruled that the period from 2016 to 2019 would not be considered Infantino’s first term as president.
