Free or low-cost summer activities

Whether you’re staying at home or on the go, activities can get expensive. But in the summer there are many free or low-cost activities. Advice from Fanny Guinochet

It would be a shame to deprive yourself of these cheap or free activities this summer. To cool off, there are many equipped beaches, several municipalities install them (“Paris Plage” for example). You will find sports activities, volleyball, pétanque, concerts, guinguette with balls, water games. There are also pop-up pools. The department of Seine-Saint-Denis has installed several this summer. But municipalities and cities are also preparing them.

franceinfo: Why not take advantage of these holidays to learn to swim?

Fanny Guinochet: To combat drowning, free lessons are offered, in collaboration with the French swimming federation, for young people aged 4 to 12, everywhere in France, with priority in city policy districts, and rural revitalization zones. LThe program is called “I’m learning to swim”. Discover.

Another activity, the cinema. You can seek coolness in dark rooms, but it pays off. However, if you have the time, consider morning sessions, which are less expensive. In the summer, there are many outdoor film screenings. In Paris, the Hotel Paradiso or the Moulin Rouge offer free screenings on their roofs all summer long. A cinema under the stars, it’s beautiful, it changes.

You too can play sports easily this summer…

For sports, you can also take advantage of free outdoor yoga and tai-chi classes. Also in this case municipalities or associations plan them, inquire. Also think about the bicycle, more and more cities have set up cycle lanes, which allow you to pedal without danger. Ideal for a family outing. For walking there are forests but also green belts, which are circuits traced in the cities.

We conclude with the museums, many also have special offers in the summer, sometimes with night visits, fun visits for children. Libraries and media libraries also adjust their programmes, sometimes with storytelling, performances or festivals.
