Clarisse Agbégnénou will enter the Grévin museum

The sports section of the Grévin museum has recently only included statues of men: Kylian Mbappé, Camille Lacourt, Tony Parker, Cristiano Ronaldo, Renaud Lavillenie or even Teddy Riner… For the first time since the removal of the statues of Amélie Mauresmo and Jeannie Longo, a woman will be represented in the famous Parisian museum in the person of Clarisse Agbégnénou.

The 29-year-old judoka, double Olympic champion with in particular an individual title acquired in her category (-63kg) during the Tokyo Olympics in the summer of 2021, will make her debut at the Grévin museum. The statue, made by the sculptor Stéphane Barret, will be installed and unveiled on Monday, October 3 during a dedicated evening, in the presence of Agbégnénou.

The replica of the judoka will be accessible to the public the next morning. Agbégnénou is the first athlete in her discipline to find her place there since Brigitte Deydier in 1988. The one who has the most beautiful record of French women’s judo will certainly not see this tribute as a conclusion to her career. After putting her sports career on hold to give birth to her first child, Clarisse Agbégnénou will now focus on her next big goal: the 2024 Olympics.
