Bayern announce the appointment of a new sporting director
Christoph Freund will become Bayern Munich’s new sporting director, according to the reigning German champions’ official website. The specialist will start his duties on 1 September.
He will replace Hasan Salihamidzic, who was fired in a scandal this spring. He left the Munich club at the end of the 2022/23 season, together with CEO Oliver Kahn. The management of the team made them responsible for the season in which Bayern almost lost the title.
“We are delighted to have been able to attract such an experienced and successful sporting director. We are convinced that he will strengthen the squad together with coaching staff Thomas Tuchel and technical director Marco Neppe,” said CEO Jan-Christian Driesen.
Currently, the 46-year-old Austrian is the sports director of the Salzburg football club, in whose structure he has been since 2006.
