Before arriving on the Champs-Elysées and finding a well-deserved rest, the riders, who still had strength, wanted to liven up the 20th stage of the Grande Boucle on Saturday.
Tadej Pogacar is not a romantic, he is a winner. Completely flabbergasted upon exiting the Alps, the double Tour winner showed why he was one of the top two or three riders in world cycling. Already victorious during the 6th stage, the Slovenian raised his arms again at the end of the 20th stage, on Saturday 22 July. And if his attack in the yellow jersey group jeopardized Thibaut Pinot’s dreams of victory, the important thing for him was elsewhere: to win, in a burst of pride, finishing ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, the yellow jersey who didn’t give up a single sole, except in the final sprint.
But the Frenchman from Groupama-FDJ still managed to have an exceptional day. First present in the escape, then left alone to face the mountains that he knows so well. Nicknamed by a cheering crowd, the one who will leave the group at the end of the season had a memorable day. But without victory.
