VK employees ordered to return to Russia under threat of dismissal

VK guide group threatened with dismissal demanded to return to Russia all employees who fled the country from mobilization. Those who refuse to return are offered to look for a new job, the We Can Explain telegram channel writes, citing a source familiar with the state of affairs in the company.

Heads of departments were told to return remote employees to Russia under the pretext of security and the desire to eliminate leaks in the company, another source in VK management explained.

According to the first source, the company is going to officially announce the decision to return all employees to Russia before the end of the first quarter of 2023. The basis for the dismissal of those who refuse may be the “Klishas law”, which is currently being prepared. It prohibits remote work for employees in some areas, including IT.

The real reason for such a decision may be preparations for a new wave of mobilization – if the relatives of the programmers who left Russia are “grabbed”, they may intentionally sabotage the work, one of the sources believes. In his opinion, layoffs will help save VK from “risk” employees.

The ban on remote work was previously adopted by VTB, Otkritie, Sberbank, Megafon and Beeline. Employees of these companies were not threatened with layoffs, but were urged to return to Russia.

According to official data, in VK group more than 10 thousand people work. The holding includes the social network VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Mail.ru and other assets. The company is headed by the son of the first deputy head of the presidential administration, Sergei Kiriyenko, Vladimir. Controls VK group through subsidiaries of SOGAZ, Putin’s friend, who convinced him of the need to start a war in Ukraine, billionaire Yuri Kovalchuk.

According to the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev, about 100 thousand IT specialists left Russia, which is 10% of the total number of IT workers. About 80% of those who left continue to work for Russian companies.

The Ministry of Digital Development is developing measures with the help of which the state expects to return IT specialists to the country, including they are invited to guarantee reservations from being drafted to the front, Kommersant wrote. At the same time, regulations on the postponement of mobilization for employees of IT companies have not yet been adopted, partner Five noted Stones consulting Alexander Karpukhin.
