The United States spoke about its role in the counteroffensive near Kharkov

US intelligence helped Ukraine prepare a counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, writes the New York Times.

A radical change in the exchange of intelligence between Kyiv and Washington occurred in the summer. Prior to this, the UAF was afraid to share information, because they believed that this could reveal their weaknesses and prevent further support from the Americans. However, when planning the counteroffensive, they decided to change the position so that it would be more effective.

The publication does not specify what kind of information the parties transmitted to each other during this period. But throughout the war, the United States provided Ukraine with information about command posts, ammunition depots and other key nodes. According to the American authorities, such intelligence played a decisive role in planning and implementing tasks, targeting Russian troops, and killing high-ranking generals. They also forced the Russian army to transfer ammunition depots further from the front line.

USA praise the Ukrainian military. According to former Pentagon official and CIA officer Mick Mulroy, the UAF is moving faster than expected.

“These guys have eight years of special forces training,” said Evelyn Farkas, a senior Pentagon official for Ukraine and Russia in the Obama administration. “Our intelligence officers taught them disinformation and psychological operations.”

The United States recalled that Ukraine’s decision to reveal its counter-offensive in the south before striking in the northeast is a standard misleading device. It has been used by the US military, which has been training Ukrainians since the annexation of Crimea in 2014.

The day before, Aleksey Arestovich, an adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine, called Ukrainian statements about an offensive in the south a “decoupling”. According to him, the Russian troops fell for the ruse, and this helped to achieve success near Kharkov.
