The State Duma proposed deprivation of citizenship by birth for “discrediting” the army

A bill on deprivation of citizenship by birth for desertion, “discrediting” the army and incitement to extremism was submitted to the State Duma, Kommersant noted.

The authors of the amendment reminded that in April, President Vladimir Putin allowed the withdrawal of a Russian passport for these crimes, but only from persons with acquired citizenship. According to the legislators, this measure should be extended to everyone.

“The implementation of this draft federal law will improve the guarantees of equality of citizens before the law, equality of constitutional and legal status of all constituent entities of the Russian Federation,” the justification reads.
