The Russians promised to return ten-year-old passports

From the beginning of June, Russia will resume accepting applications for biometric passports with a 10-year validity period, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced.

The issuance of 10-year passports with a chip was suspended in February this year. From then on, only a five-year passport could be issued, and obtaining one automatically invalidates any subsequent passport.

Goznak went on to explain that the suspension was due to increased demand for biometric passports and the chips to produce them. In 2022, Russians issued 5.4 million international passports.
