The Pentagon announced the return to service of the damaged Patriot complex

The Patriot system damaged by Russian shelling has been repaired, said Defense Department spokeswoman Sabrina Singh.

“One Patriot system was damaged but is now repaired, fully restored and operational,” a Pentagon spokeswoman said during a press conference.

Earlier, CNN wrote, citing US officials, that the system was minimally damaged during the Russian attack on Kiev. After receiving information from the Ukrainian Armed Forces that the complex was under fire, Washington sent inspectors to check the air defense system. The system turned out to be working. Its most important element – the radar station – was not damaged. In the US, the damage was called “minor”.

At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that on May 16, as a result of an attack on Kiev by the Kinzhal missile system, the radar station and five launchers of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system were “hit and completely destroyed.” .

The Patriot battery consists of six main components: generators, radar, control station, antennas, launchers and interceptors. There can be up to 8 installations in one system, each with 4 missiles.

In recent weeks, Russia has intensified its missile attacks on Kiev. On the night of May 18, the Ukrainian capital was subjected to the ninth indiscriminate shelling since early May. The attack was carried out by Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea region. They fired Kh-101/555 cruise missiles.

The Russian military command decided to increase the number of attacks on Kiev in order to force the Armed Forces put it down announced a counter-offensive, reports CNN with regard to the informed US official. Moscow has even launched a new tactic, now directing missiles at Kiev’s command centers and other critical targets to overwhelm Ukraine’s air defense system.
