The new Russian McDonald’s did not have technologies for the “Big Mac” and “McFlurry”

The Vkusno-i Tochka restaurant chain, which in Russia replaced the McDonald’s that left the country, will not be able to copy the exact analogues of the Big Mac burger and McFlurry dessert for its menu due to patent restrictions. As RBC told CEO of the network Oleg Paroev, his team will develop dishes that are as close as possible in composition.

In the case of the Big Mac, the Russian network will have to replace the original sauce in the burger with a similar one that does not differ in taste.

“We have certain difficulties. Not difficult, but, I would say, an “interesting challenge” on how to replace this sauce using other ingredients. But the product that we saw, outwardly, in taste, will practically not, I think, differ from the classic Big Mac, ”Paroev emphasized.

For an analogue of McFlurry, the Russian network will have to come up with a replacement patented technology – fluring, that is, “turning a spoon in ice cream,” as Paroev explained.

In McFlurry, the spoon used to serve the dessert is also the attachment for the mixer, which is used to mix the ice cream and toppings before serving. That is why the handle of the spoon is square and hollow in cross section.

Fast food restaurant chain McDonald’s closed all Russian restaurants in March and later decided to sell them. The buyer was entrepreneur Alexander Govor, who had already developed several McDonald’s outlets under a franchise in Siberia.

In June, on the basis of former McDonalds establishments, restaurants of the Vkusno-i-Tochka chain opened. The new owners cannot use the old brand, logo and proprietary dishes. Since the opening of visitors have accumulated a lot of claims to institutions. Social media users posted videos and photos of bugs in sandwiches, mold, expired sauces and birds pecking at a package of fresh buns outside a restaurant.

In July, it became known that french fries and rustic potatoes would disappear from the menu of some of the chain’s restaurants. 2021 has been a lean year in Russia for essential potato varieties, with foreign growers either leaving the country due to the war or being unable to deliver potatoes due to logistical issues.

Earlier, Coca-Cola Company drinks ceased to be sold at Vkusno — i Tochka, as the company closed its Russian factories and left the country. This soda can be replaced by Pepsi or Chernogolovka.
