The governor of the Kursk region called for the distribution of weapons to residents to protect themselves from saboteurs
Representatives of territorial defense in the regions of Russia bordering Ukraine should receive weapons so that they can participate in anti-terrorist operations, said the governor of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoy.
According to him, the region already provides places to store weapons in the form provided for by law. “Weapons assigned to a fighter should be there and issued only for maintenance, shooting exercises, and also, if necessary, for use during a counter-terrorist operation or in the event of imposition of martial law,” said Starovoit (quoted from RBC).
Earlier, a territorial defense was established in the Kursk region – a people’s volunteer detachment. Starovoit ensured that all combatants in the region are equipped and have completed tactical courses, as well as training in automatic weapons, anti-tank guided missiles and grenade launchers. Druzhinnikov are trained by specialists from Wagner PMC.
“On our part, all conditions have been provided for the training of fighters and the creation of places to store weapons and the necessary ammunition. It is necessary to make a joint political and legislative decision on the possibility of arming our fighters, ”Starovoit noted.
The idea of giving weapons to the participants of the defense was earlier proposed by the deputy chairman of the Federation Council, Anatoly Turchak, reminded the deputy of the State Duma from the Kursk region Yekaterina Kharchenko. “If martial law is introduced, if there is a need to protect civilians, women, children, then I believe that it will of course be necessary, taking into account strict regulations, to issue weapons to territorial defense fighters, members of the volunteer unit,” Kharchenko said.
All activities related to the performance of “arms in hand” tasks are carried out as part of service in the Armed Forces or law enforcement agencies – the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB and others, said Andrei Kartapolov, head of the State Duma Defense Committee. According to him, in order to arm therodefence, one must first regulate the status of its participants. The deputy admitted that such units could be established within the local Ministry of the Interior or the FSB.
On May 22, a sabotage group entered the Graivoronsky urban district of the Belgorod region and held several settlements for a day. An anti-terrorist operation was announced in the region. At the same time, conscript soldiers were sent to clean up the saboteurs. One of them was captured.
