Generals who demand that soldiers on the front lines shave their beards are “a bunch of clowns,” Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of the Wagner PMC, said.
“A bunch of clowns is trying to teach the fighters, exhausted by hard military labor, how many times they should shave and what kind of spirits to meet the higher authorities. I believe that it is necessary to adopt a legislative restriction and the most severe punishment with a prison term of up to 50 years for the glamorization of the army, ”his press service reports Prigozhin’s words.
He also supported the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, in this matter and asked him to grow a beard twice as long – “for himself and for me.” Prior to this, Prigogine noted that “80% of the time [на фронте] soldiers wash themselves with a bottle” and shaving is “a great luxury” for them. “War is the time of the active and courageous, and not of the clean-shaven with phones handed over to the warehouse,” concluded the head of the Wagner PMC.
Earlier, military correspondents reported that the new commander of the Russian group in Ukraine, Valery Gerasimov, banned soldiers from wearing beards in the combat zone. “Front-line soldiers began to be strained by shaving beards, haircuts and statutory uniforms, which, to put it mildly, is difficult to comply with in the advanced conditions,” wrote the Unofficial Bezsonov Z telegram channel.
Lieutenant-General Viktor Sobolev, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, confirmed this information. “This is an elementary requirement of military discipline, a soldier must be a soldier. Of course, the main task of a military man is to fight competently and skillfully. But I don’t think that with any of the most intense combat activities, there are no 15-20 minutes to put your appearance in order, ”said Sobolev.
The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, criticized the requirement to shave his beard. According to him, the fighters wear beards “only for the sake of the Almighty, as our beloved Prophet did.” “In our team, 99.9% have a beard, take care of it, wear it according to the Sunnah. And our fighters in the NVO zone also look after their beards,” Kadyrov noted and suggested that all generals who talk about shaving go to the front line.
After that, Lieutenant General Sobolev admitted that all Chechens fight with beards, and to demand that they shave them “would be stupid.” However, according to him, this does not negate the fact that the serviceman “should be in good shape, regardless of whether he is at war or not.”
Gerasimov’s struggle with beards, which he wages to strengthen discipline in the troops, does not help him achieve his goal and causes skepticism among critics, summarizes British intelligence in their latest report.
