Navalny was sentenced to 20 years in prison in an “extremist” case
The prosecutor’s office asked the court to sentence opposition leader Alexei Navalny to 20 years in prison in an “extremist” case, report politician associates.
Navalny is charged under six articles of the Criminal Code: incitement to extremism, creating a non-profit organization that violates the rights of citizens, financing extremism, creating an extremist community, involving minors in dangerous acts, and rehabilitating Nazism.
In total, the oppositionist faces up to 30 years in prison. With him, the trial of the former technical director of Navalny LIVE, Daniel Kholodny, who has been in prison for more than a year, is taking place. the prosecutor asked to appoint 10 years in a penal colony.
The meeting took place in IK-6 of the Vladimir region, where Navalny is serving nine years term in the previous case. From the very beginning, journalists were not allowed to attend the trial, after which the court was closed to the public. The verdict will be delivered on August 4.
The Russian authorities consider the Anti-Corruption Foundation established by Navalny, which investigated the illegal enrichment of officials, as an “extremist community”.
The defense witnesses in the case were the convicted politicians Ilya Yashin, Vladimir Kara-Murza and Lilia Chanysheva, as well as the former mayor of Yekaterinburg Yevgeny Roizman and the editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta Dmitry Muratov.
Earlier, Navalny published several sheets of evidence for the prosecutor’s office. Between them – text Morgenstern’s song “Navalny Lekha”, as well as information about cryptocurrency transfers to an oppositionist from the wallet named PutinHui.
In April, Navalny said that one more case had been singled out in this case – that of terrorism. According to him, the policy will be assessed by a military court.
