ALMA-ATA, June 1 (Reuters) – The National Bank of Kazakhstan sold USD 800 million from the National Fund on the domestic market in May, without currency intervention, the Central Bank said on Thursday.
Kazakhstan’s state-owned enterprises sold about $323 million on the domestic market in May.
In order to maintain the currency share in pension assets, in April the National Bank bought USD 240 million at stock exchange auctions.
The purchase of foreign currency to maintain the foreign exchange share of UAPF pension assets in June in the amount of USD 200 to 250 million, the sale of foreign currency from the National Fund – from USD 500 million to USD 550 million, the Central Bank said.
According to the Central Bank, in May the tenge strengthened by 1.2% to 447.71 tenge to the dollar. (Maria Gordeeva)
