Idle petrol production capacity at Russian refineries to fall by 3% April/March
MOSCOW, March 16 (Reuters) – Gasoline production shutdown at Russian refineries in April will decrease by 3% from March, according to Reuters calculations based on information on annual and ongoing overhauls of Russian refineries located at the Eikon terminal and industry sources . According to the current overhaul schedule, the total volume of withdrawn secondary capacities for the production of motor gasoline components (reforming, cracking, isomerization and alkylation) of Russian refineries will not increase in April and will amount to 0.693 million tonnes, i.e. 2.8 million tonnes. % less than in March (0.736 million tons). The capacities of gasoline processes withdrawn in April may be higher than the March level by 9% in the event of the probable extension of the March shutdown of the installation for another month and amount to approx. 0.778 million tonnes. At the same time, the estimated value of withdrawn gasoline production capacity will remain much lower than the actual value in April 2022 (1.105 million tonnes). Also, the March standstill of gasoline units is lower than the actual value from March 22 (0.804 million tons). The current recovery plan assumes a reduction in the production of target components (reformate, cat. cracked gasoline, isomerizate and alkylate) in March by 0.575 million tonnes, which is approx. 17% of the average production of commercial gasolines, in April – by 0.539 million tonnes (16% of production) or by 0.614 million tons (18% of production), in the case of an expected increase in the actual shutdown. The total availability of gasoline capacity in 2023 is to amount to 8.873 million tonnes (6.782 million tonnes in product production), in 2022 unused production capacity amounted to 10.742 million tonnes (8.561 million tonnes in product production). The largest withdrawal of secondary capacity at Russian refineries in 2023 is expected in August (0.919 million tonnes), September (1.255 million tonnes) and October (1.011 million tonnes). The installed production capacity of the existing gasoline processes in Russian refineries potentially allows for the production of approximately 56 million tonnes of high-octane components for motor gasolines annually. In January-December 2022, according to Refinitiv, Russian refineries produced 42.6 million tons of gasoline, of which 37.8 million tons went to the domestic market.
