BAKU, Jan 18 (Reuters) – Azerbaijani oil exports via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline increased to 29.7 million tons in 2022 from 26.4 million tons a year earlier, the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan said.
The volume of transit oil pumped through the BTC increased to 5.104 million tons from 3.598 million tons.
Azerbaijan pumped through the BTC 78.7% of the total volume of oil exports, which amounted to 37.8 million tons in 2022.
The total length of the BTC, which delivers Caspian oil to the Turkish port of Ceyhan on the Mediterranean coast for further shipment by tanker shipments, is 1,768 kilometers. The capacity of the pipeline allows exporting 1.2 million barrels of oil per day. According to the project, the capacity of BTC can be increased to 2.2 million barrels per day.
Oil pumping through the BTC this year is planned in the amount of 660,000 barrels per day. Of these, 440,000 barrels will fall on oil from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields, 100,000 barrels – on condensate from the Shah Deniz field, and 120,000 barrels – on oil from the Caspian region.
