Tenuta Carlo Magno wishes to offer a symbolic summer

the essential
Located at the foot of the Cité de Carcassonne, the Charlemagne estate covers 21 hectares of vineyards. Zoom on a recognized domain.

The Charlemagne agricultural high school, located at the foot of the Cité de Carcassonne, offers a broad and accessible education to its students. It has 500 students, 300 apprentices and 2 employees.

Its specificity concerns its dual mission: the first is production, the second is based on training and experimentation, where students work all year round in the company. This vineyard was renovated 4 years ago: “We have adapted some vines and started an environmental approach, towards organic farming”, says Jean-Marc Olivier, director of the Charlemagne farm.

Local products are made in short circuit: “Our grapes go through two very different circuits: 3/4 go to the cooperative cellar of Cavanac which makes wine.” This winery is labeled quality tourism in the south of France, the brand of the region, Pays Cathare, vineyard and discovery and soon disabled tourism: “Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, we have collected everything on this estate”.

A prestigious “La Dame” cuvée

The icing on the cake: on June 1, the estate launched its prestigious cuvée, “La Dame”: “This cuvée is directly linked to the city of Carcassonne, it represents luck and success”, says Jean-Marc Olivier. He pursues: “This project didn’t stop there: the first 100 bottles of this cuvée will leave to age in the count’s castle and will return to the cellar for the end-of-year celebrations in 2023. We are a recognized and essential place in the region. Innovation is at the heart of our experimental project”.
