Ideal conditions for the Albi flea market
From Thursday to Saturday, in the streets of old Albi, traders set out their stalls to sell unsold and discontinued items. The sale, this year on the theme of the Tour de France, attracts many customers. And the night promises to be festive.
Rue Peyrolères, 10.30am A saleswoman inflates balloons in the colors of the Tour de France. The runners are expected in Albi in a few days, and the event is honored for the sale of the traders, which is held in the streets of the city center from Thursday 20 to Saturday 23 July.
“The sale is eagerly awaited,” whispers Angélique Pezzetti, setting up baskets full of cut-price accessories in front of her store. She today she is selling her discontinued lei and other unsold items. “There should be a lot of people, mostly tourists. No heat wave. The weather is perfect, the mood too,” she says.
It is the rue Peyrolière shopkeepers’ association that has organized the installation of yellow bicycles, balloons and pennants to decorate. “We are the most beautiful road!”, greets Caroline Millau, president of the association.
Festive night
Traders expect a lively nightlife, with music and aperitifs. Adrien Gautrand, prêt-à-porter vendor on rue Mariès during the day, will be setting up his DJ platters in front of his shop tonight. For the moment he has just finished installing the hangers at low prices: “I think we’ll already have a lot of people, he won’t stop!”.

The hollow of the afternoon appeases the ardor a little. “It’s hot. People will be back tonight,” explains Sophie, ceramist at “Au gré du vent”. Sitting under a parasol, she notices that her stand still attracts onlookers. “A lot of people who didn’t know the store come in to find out,” she says.
Waiting for a busy evening, the merchants take advantage of the passage of tourists, who often discover the sale by chance. And the ice cream vendors too.
