Colomiers: strong emotion after the death of Jean-Paul Vergaï
Jean-Paul Vergaï, a company manager in the construction sector and historic director of Colomiers rugby, has just died at the age of 67.
Jean-Paul Vergaï’s death on Monday, a week before he celebrated his 68th birthday, will leave a great void in Colomiers. Especially at the Bendichou Stadium, where her stature and his smile could not be missing. This jovial man was a historic leader of Colomiers rugby. Strong, he had been a valiant third midfielder in the 1980s, in Group B, before the club reached the top tier.
Then, of course, he became manager, together with his great friend Michel Bendichou, who passed away in 2004. “He was vice president for twenty years, he was in charge of the partnership. He found sponsors, animated the meals of the partners. He was also the announcer at the stadium », recalls his son Nicolas.
“The club is sad”
If for some years he no longer had an official mission, “he was in any case and always a manager, and above all a faithful fan, viscerally linked to the club”. “The club is sad. An iconic leader is leaving. He was an outstanding animator, I had a lot of respect for him. He knew how to do it. Before getting me to sign my first partnership, he came with Jean-Luc Sadourny and Fabien Galthié », says Alain Carré, president since 2004.
Company manager in Colomiers
Outside of rugby, Jean-Paul Vergaï set up an electricity company in Colomiers in 1993, which he sold when he retired. “It was an SME of six people, carrying out numerous projects in Colomiers and neighboring countries. He responded to tenders for large construction operations. He has worked a lot on the creation or renovation of housing for Colomiers Habitat ”, says his son.
Sympathetic, altruistic, Jean-Paul Vergaï was departmental and regional delegate and member of the steering committee of the FFIE (French Federation of Electrical Installers). He was one of the first members of the Colomiers business club, which has since become the western business club of Toulouse.
Married for 40 years, Jean-Paul Vergaï leaves behind two children and four grandchildren. “My father was faithful. He has always fought for his professional life, for his club, for his loved ones and against the disease ”, concludes his son Nicolas.
